Gadsden Elementary School District and San Luis Preschool, in partnership with First Things First, hosted the South County Child Care Forum on Sept. 17, bringing together regional leaders to discuss child care access and quality. San Luis Preschool was chosen for its strong reputation, NAEYC accreditation, and role as a model program for First Things First. The event also included the soft opening of Yuma County’s first Family and Community Resource Center and a panel highlighting the connection between child care and economic development.

El Distrito Escolar Primario de Gadsden y el Preescolar de San Luis, en colaboración con First Things First, organizaron el Foro de Cuidado Infantil del Sur del Condado el 17 de septiembre, reuniendo a líderes regionales para abordar el acceso y la calidad del cuidado infantil. El Preescolar de San Luis fue seleccionado por su sólida reputación, su acreditación de NAEYC y su función como modelo para First Things First. On Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, Gadsden Elementary School will conduct a campus lockdown drill and a full-scale student reunification drill as part of its emergency preparedness strategy. The exercises, conducted in collaboration with law enforcement and in compliance with Arizona state law, are designed to evaluate safety protocols and ensure families and staff are familiar with emergency procedures. These efforts highlight the district’s commitment to protecting students and maintaining a secure learning environment.

El jueves 18 de septiembre de 2025, la Escuela Primaria Gadsden llevará a cabo un simulacro de cierre de campus y un simulacro de reunificación de estudiantes como parte de su estrategia de preparación para emergencias. Los ejercicios, realizados en colaboración con las autoridades y en cumplimiento con la ley estatal de Arizona, tienen como objetivo evaluar los protocolos de seguridad y garantizar que las familias y el personal conozcan los procedimientos de emergencia. Darianna Castillo, a former GESD student, has been awarded the 2025 La Excelencia Latina Award by the National Association for Gifted Children. She is the only junior high school student in the nation to receive this honor and will be recognized at the NAGC Annual Convention in Pittsburgh. Her achievement reflects the success of long-standing district programs that continue to open doors for students to excel at the highest levels.

Darianna Castillo, exalumna del Distrito Escolar Primario de Gadsden, fue reconocida con el premio La Excelencia Latina 2025 por la Asociación Nacional para Niños Dotados. Es la única estudiante de secundaria en todo el país en recibir este honor y será reconocida durante la convención anual de NAGC en Pittsburgh. Su logro refleja el impacto de los programas consolidados del distrito que siguen brindando oportunidades para que los estudiantes destaquen al más alto nivel.

Gadsden Elementary School District Governing Board Clerk Tadeo A. De La Hoya has been appointed to the WestEd Board of Directors by the Arizona State Board of Education. De La Hoya, who also serves as president of the Arizona School Boards Association, will represent Arizona’s local school districts on the national board through May 2028. His appointment underscores GESD’s ongoing commitment to strong governance and advocacy for students and families at the local, state and national levels.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 has launched CrossWalk by UniteGPS, a new system that uses student ID cards to track bus ridership and improve safety. Supported through a federal School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) Grant, the system provides parents peace of mind and helps the district improve efficiency. Students riding district buses are required to carry and scan their school ID daily.

Gadsden Elementary School District has been invited to participate in the Transition Fair hosted by Yuma Union High School District

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 will be participating in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program. As part of this program, Arizona Desert Elementary School, Cesar Chavez Elementary School, Desert View Elementary School, Ed Pastor Elementary School, Gadsden Elementary School, Rio Colorado Elementary School, San Luis Middle School, San Luis Preschool and Southwest Junior High will offer healthy meals every school day.
