The Gadsden Elementary School District #32 Governing Board approved a proclamation recognizing April 2026 as Autism Awareness Month. The proclamation highlights the importance of awareness, acceptance and inclusion, while recognizing the role educators, staff and families play in supporting students with autism. It also reaffirms the district’s commitment to creating a school community where every child feels valued, respected and empowered to succeed.


La Mesa Directiva del Distrito Escolar Primario de Gadsden #32 aprobó una proclamación que reconoce abril de 2026 como el Mes de Concientización sobre el Autismo. La proclamación destaca la importancia de la concientización, la aceptación y la inclusión, al mismo tiempo que reconoce el papel de los educadores, el personal y las familias en el apoyo a los estudiantes con autismo. Gadsden Elementary School District #32 is now recruiting new substitute teachers to support schools across the district. This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of students while serving their local school community.

Testing dates will be held April 20–22, followed by Substitute Teacher Training on April 24 at the GESD District Office.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 will award 300 Chromebooks through the Department of Defense STEM Career Pathways Project initiative, recognizing student achievement at San Luis Middle School and Southwest Junior High. The devices were made possible through a partnership led by Department of Defense STEM Ambassador Elizabeth Colton, Elevate Southwest, and AZ StRUT, with advocacy from Jerry Cabrera and Aaron Ruiz helping expand the opportunity to GESD students. The Chromebooks will be presented during the district’s Arizona Tech Week celebration on April 8 at San Luis Middle School, highlighting the district’s commitment to academic success, technology access, and future opportunities for students.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 invites parents, staff, and community members to a Special Governing Board Meeting on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the District Office Administrative Building.

The meeting will include discussion and public comment regarding the consideration of a name change for Cesar Chavez Elementary School and the Cesar Chavez Activity Center at San Luis Middle School.

No action will be taken at this meeting. Any future action will take place at a later Governing Board meeting after public input has been considered.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 is partnering with All In Education to invite parents, caregivers, and community members to join the Parent Educator Academy, a program focused on strengthening family engagement and supporting student success. The academy will provide training, resources, and guidance to help families better understand the education system, advocate for their children, and build stronger connections with schools. The Spring 2026 cohort begins March 17, 2026, with sessions held twice a week from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and interested families are encouraged to contact their child’s school Parent Liaison for registration information.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 will begin offering simultaneous Spanish interpretation (English-to-Spanish) at Governing Board meetings starting March 10, 2026. Interpretation will be available upon request through headsets that can be checked out at the sign-in table, with staff available to help attendees use the equipment. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the District Office and are livestreamed on the district’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

El Distrito Escolar Primario Gadsden #32 comenzará a ofrecer interpretación simultánea al español (de inglés a español) en las reuniones de la Mesa Directiva a partir del 10 de marzo de 2026. La interpretación estará disponible a solicitud mediante audífonos que se podrán solicitar y registrar en la mesa de asistencia, con personal disponible para ayudar a usar el equipo. Gadsden Elementary School District No. 32 staff members have completed certification to become in-district trainers in the Crisis Prevention Institute’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention program. Through a train-the-trainer model, staff from each school will return to their campuses to provide training that helps prevent, de-escalate and safely respond to crisis behavior using supportive communication and prevention-focused strategies. The initiative reflects GESD’s commitment to student safety by strengthening consistent practices that keep schools safe, supportive and focused on learning.

Gadsden Elementary School District #32 is celebrating the selection of Paloma Peralta Carrillo, Executive Master Teacher, to Stanford University’s Hoover Institution Future of Educators Working Group. Ms. Peralta Carrillo has served GESD for more than 12 years, beginning her journey as a substitute teacher at 18 and growing into an instructional leader. She was also named a 2024 NIET Fellow as part of a national cohort recognized for leadership and continued growth. Through four convenings in 2026, the working group will elevate educators’ voices and help shape practical ideas that strengthen the teaching profession and support student success.

El Distrito Escolar Primario de Gadsden #32 celebra la selección de Paloma Peralta Carrillo, Executive Master Teacher, para formar parte del Future of Educators Working Group del Hoover Institution de la Universidad de Stanford. Ms. Peralta Carrillo ha servido en GESD por más de 12 años, iniciando su trayectoria como maestra sustituta a los 18 años y creciendo hasta convertirse en una líder instruccional. Además, fue nombrada NIET Fellow 2024 como parte de un grupo nacional reconocido por su liderazgo y compromiso con el crecimiento profesional continuo. A través de cuatro reuniones en 2026, este grupo elevará la voz de los educadores y ayudará a desarrollar ideas prácticas que fortalezcan la profesión docente y apoyen el éxito estudiantil.

Desert View Elementary and Gadsden Elementary School District #32, with San Luis public safety agencies, conducted a state-mandated reunification drill on Friday, January 16. About 490 students were transported to Eligio Ramirez Park and reunited with families, with the final release completed at 11:03 a.m. The district will review feedback to improve and strengthen emergency preparedness.

During the January 13 Governing Board meeting, the Gadsden Elementary School District #32 Governing Board selected Tadeo A. De La Hoya to continue serving as Board President and chose Mark Concha to serve as Board Clerk for 2026. The selections were made during the Board’s annual organizational meeting, held each year in accordance with Arizona State laws and GESD Governing Board Policy.
