Achievement Testing
Students enrolled in Arizona public schools are required to participate in statewide assessments. Gadsden Elementary School District #32 administers the following mandated assessments on a yearly basis. Assessment scores are used by the Arizona Department of Education to grade schools based on student growth and proficiency.

AzMERIT
AzMERIT Testing
The AzMERIT is a computer-based assessment that measures student mastery of the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards. Students in grades 3 through 8 participate in the AzMERIT assessment, which is administered during the Spring.
The Test:
Students complete a total of five sub-tests for the AzMERIT.
- Writing - For the Writing test, students are required to read a few passages and then respond to a prompt in the form of a multi-paragraph essay.
- Reading - The Reading test is separated into two parts, Reading 1 and Reading 2. During both tests, students read a variety of passages and answer comprehension questions.
- Math - The Math test is also administered in two separate parts, Math 1 and Math 2. During the math tests, students work on a variety of math problems to show master of the grade level standards.

AIMS Science Testing
AIMS Science Testing
The AIMS Science test is administered to students in fourth and eighth grade. It is a computer based test aimed to assess student proficiency in the Arizona Academic Content Standards in Science. Students take the AIMS Science test during the Spring.
The Test:
Students participating in the AIMS Science assessment take the test in two parts. The test is a multiple choice test that is typically finished in one day.

AZELLA
AZELLA Testing
The Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) is an assessment used to measure a student's English proficiency. It is aligned to the Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards and is administered to students who are not yet proficient in English in order to determine the appropriate placement for instruction. There are two test administrations for AZELLA testing; AZELLA Placement and AZELLA Reassessment.
AZELLA Placement
The AZELLA Placement test is administered to newly enrolled students who have been identified as second language learners on the Home Language Survey upon enrollment. This assessment is used to determine the appropriate placement for instruction.
AZELLA Reassessment
The AZELLA Reassessment takes place in February and is given to all students who have been placed in the English Language Learner program. Students will take the AZELLA Reassessment once a year, every year until they become proficient in English. Once students have achieved proficiency on the AZELLA, they are monitored for two years to ensure that they are successful after transitioning into a mainstream classroom.

MSAA
Alternative Assessments
Students in the Special Education program who do not participate in AzMEIT or AIMS Science testing will most likely take the state's Alternate Assessments. Only students who meet the eligibility requirements will be eligible to participate in these assessments.
MSAA
The Multi-State Alternate Assessment (MSAA) is a comprehensive assessment system developed for students with significant cognitive disabilities to measure mastery of the state's content standards. Third through eighth grade students participating in the MSAA will take the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math tests. The test has built-in supports that allow the students to complete the test as independently as possible.
AIMS A
AIMS A is administered to students in fourth and eighth grade with a significant cognitive disability who do not participate in the AIMS Science testing. Like the AIMS Science, AIMS A is an assessment that measures what students know and are able to do in the area of Science. The test is aligned to the Arizona Alternate Academic Standards.

NAEP
NAEP
The National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) is a national assessment that has been administered since 1969. It is the only assessment that measures the knowledge and abilities of students across the country in various subjects. The test is administered between January and March to select students in grades 4, 8, and 12 in the areas of math, reading, or science. Only selected students will participate in the testing. Test results will be included as part of the Nation's Report Card, but student information will remain anonymous.
